Research

Typical 16th or 18th century ship

Genealogy is the study and documetnation of your family history. Just about everyone in North America have ancectors that came from some other continent including Europe, Africa, Asia, India or some other part of the world. Genealogy research helps us understand where we came from, what genetic and cultural history shapes us, and our potential for health or illness.

Genealogy is also a way to help remember people who helped create you.

Getting Started...

Desmond Walls Allen and Carolyn Earle Billingsley have written a very useful guide to help get you started. Cyndi's List and Rootsweb are two of the most useful free sites to help you learn how to do genealogy research.

Paid Services...

Ancestry.com is probably my favorite fee-based site. They have several different levels of cost to help you get in slow or jump in with both feet. The CivilWarDatabase.com is another example of a useful fee-based site, containing the service records of most regiments from the US War of the Rebellion.

Good luck...

and let me know if you find we have common ancestors or if you have questions.
