Other Crisis

Various crisis - other than local epidemics or larger pandemic - had a significant impact on our ancestors. Here are several that I've been able to find.

1350 Northern Hemisphere Medieval Warm Period Ends Generally agreed period when the warm period from the 10th to 14th centuries was officially over.

1550 Northern Hemisphere Little Ice Age Begins Generally agreed period when the cooling trend was in full swing.
1618-1648 Germany (mostly) 30 Years' War Cause of many Germans immigrating to the western hemisphere
1641 Ireland Irish Rebellion  
1642-1646 England Civil War

Ends with beheading of Charles I.
1675-1676 New England King Philip's War  
1701-1704   War of Spanish Succession Called "Queen Anne's War" in North America, it was the 2nd of the "French & Indian Wars".
1720 England Stock Market Crash Stock market lost about 98% of its value.
1743 Europe War of Austrian Succession  
1775-1783 North America American War of Independence  
1779 Egypt Battle of the Nile Napolean in Egypt
1812-1814 United States & Canada War of 1812 British-American War
1845-1850 Ireland Potato Famine A fungus infected the potato crop, the mainstay of the diet of the lower classes at that time.

While the major famine occurred in a 5 year span, Ireland continued to suffer from the same blight for 47 years.

1850 Northern Hemisphere Little Ice Age Ends  
1861-1865 United States War of the Rebellion  
1898 Cuba Spanish-American War

Over 5,000 soldiers died of Yellow Fever but only 968 died due to battle.

This epidemic, however, taught doctors how this disease spread... using volunteers.

1899-1902 Philippines Philippine-American War  
1914-1918 World Wide World War I This war goes by different names in different countries, based on their view.

Some US Army training camps suffered 80% death rate at the high-point of the Spanish Influenza epidemic.

1939-1945 World Wide World War II

This war goes by different names in different countries, based on their view.

Tens of millions died and millions more were forced to flee or were left without homes.
