Stotfold

Michael SPENCER (1530) married Elizabeth _____ (c1540) and moved to Stotfold about 1563, or he may have moved then married her. His first wife Agnes LIMER had died in 1561, leaving him with 3 children. Two generations later Michael's grandchildren left Stotfold for the New World.

The church of St. Mary is a building of flint, with Ashwell clunch stone dressings to the buttresses, and chiefly in the Early Perpendicular style, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, south and modern north porch and a western embattled tower containing 3 bells ... The register dates from the year 1559. [Source: Kelly's Directory - Bedfordshire - 1898]
