Sussex County, New Jersey
Sussex County is located in northern New Jersey along the Delaware
River. Early Dutch traders found copper in the 1640s and, in the
process, created a trail/road to present-day Kingston, NY. Later
immigrants included English, Irish, Scots, and Germans. The county
was split off from Morris County in 1753 though Sussex County was
split in 1824 to form Warren County to the south.
Key towns in my research include Newton (the government seat),
Branchville, Frankford Township, Stillwater Township, Flatbrookville,
and Walpack Township.
