Dutchess County, New York

Dutchess County was was of the original counties formed in 1683 but local government was not set up until 1713. The county was named to honor Mary Beatric de Este, the Duchess of York and later Queen of England (second wife of James II). She was also referred to as Mary of Modena.

Key towns or communities in my research include Pawling and (possibly) East Fishkill.
