1812 Map of Bradford County, PA

The following map, from Craft's History of Bradford County (see citation below), shows the ten (10) townships that existed when the county was organized and established with a local government at Towanda. Even though the county was created in 1810, as Ontario County, it was not until 1812 when the state legislature authorized a county government.

The map also shows, using the dotted line, what land was obtained from Lycoming County and what land came from Luzerne County. Note also that Lycoming County extends across the entire southern border; today much of that border is shared with Sullivan County.
