MINGUS

Soundex:

Summary

MINGUS is a spelling variation of the original MENGES.

Spelling Variations

MENGES, MINGES, MINGOS, MINGOUS, MINGUS

The spelling of my ancestors names changed from Menges to Mingus to Mingos as the families moved around the country and as each generation moved farther away from their German roots.

Just because a spelling appears in this list does not imply that families with that spelling have the same origins.

MENGES Coding System

The MENGES Family Association of America uses a coding system to identify the immigrants and generation of each descendant. Johann Conrad Menges has been assign the code "F" or "F1". Therefore, his daughter Maria Elizabeth is F2 (1st generation after the adult immigrant). Her brother Johann Conrad (b1757) is also identified using the code F2.

This code is combined with each male ancestor's name to clearly define an individual's lineage. For example, Coonrad Menges/Mingos was born 1777 and died 1863. He is the son of Johann Conrad (1757). Therefore, he is identified as:

J Conrad (F1), J Conrad (F2), Coonrad (F3)

Immigrant Generation [F]

This family group is tracked by the Menges Family Association of America af group "F" from the immigrant forward. This is a different method of tracking than found on other families within this web site.
