1826

Lyman SPENCER (Enoch-6, Theophilus-5, Michael-4, Robert-3, John-2, Michael-1, Gerard-A, Michael-B, John-C) and Esther BROWNELL d/o Edward BROWNELL were married about 1826. The exact date is, however, not known and the year is estimated. Their children included: James Wright (1827-1901); Elizabeth Ann (1829-before 1910); Wesley (1831-1848); Lydia (1834-after 1910); Clarissa (1842-1887); Henry Clay (1844-1929); and Lyman Harvey (1849-?).

1828

Julia Ann JENNINGS (John) was born Jan 1828 in NJ.

1830

Peter HUFF (Jacobus-1) may have died about 1830 in Sussex Co, NJ.

1835

William C HUFF (Peter-2, Jacobus-1) married Mary Catharine LOSEY (Peter) 3 Dec 1835 in Stillwater Township, Sussex Co, NJ. William and Catharine had the following children: John O (1837-1887); George W (1839-1918); Sarah Elizabeth (1841-?) who married Simeon Earl; Isaac C (1845-?); Hannah M (1848-1867); Franklin P (1850-?); Lorenzo W (1851-1852); Philip Gariss (1854-1922); and Mary C (1856-1858). They also raised Sarah's son William Henry HUFF (1856-1909) who appears to have been born out of wedlock.

David S MINGOS (John-4, Conrad-3, Conrad-2, Conrad-1) was born 19 Mar 1835 at Allegany Co, NY.

1837

Samuel RUTAN and Sarah ADAMS, both of Sussex Co, NJ, were married 25 Aug 1837 in Frankford Township, Sussex Co, NJ. They had two children that are known: Halsey (1838-?) and Harriet C (1846-1927).

John O HUFF (William-3, Peter-2, Jacobus-1) was born 22 Nov 1837 at Walpack Township, Sussex Co, NJ. They family lived on the road between the villages of Stillwater and Flatbrookville. John was the eldest child of William C HUFF and Mary Catharine LOSEY.

Conrad MINGOS bought land from John REED in December 1837 in Bradford Co, PA [Grantee Index L-Q 1812-1876; Page 525, Line 14; See Book 14, Page 253]. Joseph MINGOS bought land from John REED in Monroe Twp, Bradford Co, PA about the same time [Grantee Index L-Q 1812-1876; Page 525, Line 15; See Book 14, Page 255].

1838

Trail of Tears -- The Cherokee Nation is forcibly moved from South Carolina through Tennessee, Kentucky and Illinois to the so-called Indian Territory in Oklahoma. Over 13,000 Cherokee were rounded up in 1838 and moved to land they did not know. Of these over 3,000 died; 1,600 in the stockades before the move began and a similar number died en route. Approximately another 800 died in 1839 after reaching Oklahoma.

Martha BENJAMIN (...) was born 25 Dec 1838 in Asylum Township, Bradford Co, PA. She would later marry David S MINGOS. She may have been called 'Polly' also.

1839

Julian WILLIAMS nee HAGERTY w/o Alexander WILLIAMS (2) died 28 Feb 1839.

1840

Lydia SPENCER nee TURNER d/o Stephen TURNER and w/o Enoch-6 died about 1840. She did not appear to be in the household of her husband during the 1840 US Census. She is probably buried in a family burying ground, called the Spencer-Turner Burying Ground, near her father's property though no headstone has been found.

Alexander WILLIAMS (Matthew-1) died sometime after 1840 since he was found in the 1840 US Census but not the 1850 US Census.

John MINGOS bought land from John REED in Monroe Twp, Bradford Co, PA Feb 1840 [Grantee Index L-Q 1812-1876; Page 525, Line 19; See Book 16, Page 366].

1842

Albert L WILLIAMS (John-3, Alexander-2, Matthew-1) was born in Frankford Township, Sussex Co, NJ.

John WILLIAMS (Alexander-2, Matthew-1) married Sarah DUGAN in 1842 in NJ. They had five known children, including: Albert L (1842-1922); Martha (1844-?); Isaac (1846-1920); Lydia (c1848-?); and John E (1854-1861).

William DUNN (Joseph?) died in 1842 in NJ. He was probably still living in Walpack Township, Sussex Co, NJ at the time.

1843

Mary Ann CRAWN (James) was born 1 Jan 1843 in Sussex Co, NJ. She would later marry her first cousin once removed, John O HUFF.

1844

Henry Clay SPENCER (Lyman-7, Enoch-6, Theophilus-5, Michael-4, Robert-3, John-2, Michael-1, Gerard-A, Michael-B, John-C) was born 4 Aug 1844 at Pawling, Dutchess Co, NY.

Coonrad MINGOS bought land from Joseph MINGOS Apr 1844 in Albany Twp, Bradford Co, PA [Grantee Index L-Q 1812-1876; Page 525, Line 26; See Book 23, Page 279].

1846

Harriet C RUTAN d/o Samuel RUTAN and Sarah ADAMS was born 1 Jun 1846 in Sussex Co, NJ. Hattie married Albert L WILLIAMS in the 1860s.

John MINGUS [sic] bought land from John REED in Monroe Twp, Bradford Co, PA in Jan 1846 [Grantee Index L-Q 1812-1876; Page 525, Line 28; See Book 24, Page 305].

Joseph MINGOS bough land from John REED Jul 1846 in Monroe Twp, Bradford Co, PA [Grantee Index L-Q 1812-1876; Page 525, Line 29; See Book 25, Page 25, Page 336].

1847

Influenza Affects Entire World -- A worldwide epidemic (called a 'pandemic') spread around the globe through 1847 and 1848.

John MINGUS [sic] bought land from the Bradford Co Sheriff (probably a tax sale) in Durell Twp, Bradford Co, PA May 1847 [Grantee Index L-Q 1812-1876; Page 525, Line 30; See Book 30, Page 128].

1848

Many Parts of US Fighting Cholera Epidemic -- Through 1848 and 1849 cholera spread around the country. Few suspected contaminated food and water were to blame so no significant steps were taken to handle the situation; it simply ran its course, as usual.

Mexican War begins

John DALY (Michael-A), the elder brother of James Martin DALY, was born in Apr 1848 and baptized on the 14th inst. at St. Michael's [RC] Parish in Limerick town, Co Limerick, Ireland. The family name is spelled DEELY in the parish records. John joined the Prince Consort's Own Rifle Brigade in Dublin and immigrated into the US from Canada while the regiment was stationed there.
