- quadroon
- A child of a mulatto and white heritage. A person who is 1/4th African.
- Quaker
- A person who followed the teachings of the Society of Friends.
- query
- A request for information. A query is usually in the form of a letter or electronic mail sent to another researcher or an organization to determine if specific information exists, and possibly request a photocopy of the source document. See Topic: Writing Queries.
- quitclaim deed
- Transfer of land or claim without guaranteeing a clear title.
- quit rent roll
- In early Virginia, this was a list of those who paid the King in exchange for the right to live on and farm property.

- Directs the reader to look in another part of the book for further information.
